Opportunities in the Marriage between
INTESOL 2005 Conference,
Many TESOLers are taking their trips in several forms beyond teaching decoding and encoding. Embracing the four dimensions of critical literacy (Lewison, Flint and Van Sluys, 2002) into ESL/EFL classes promises such excitement and rewarding experiences. These four dimensions include disrupting the commonplace, interrogating multiple viewpoints, focusing in sociopolitical issues and taking action and promoting social justice. These dimensions have been promoted in the traditional classrooms, but have you thought about the possibilities in the e-world presented through the Internet, CMC (Computer-Mediated Communication) tools, and ESL software?
This session will provide examples of e-TESOL-oriented tools, resources and teaching ideas to promote each of the four dimensions. Potential questions and obstacles will be discussed and solutions offered.
