We, the undersigned, strongly request that you and
your allies take the following actions:
1. Abolish all laws and regulations issued
by the Council for National Security and the junta; stop your control over
the mainstream mass media and over all private and governmental sectors, and
completely stop exercising any power that hinders political movements by
Thais according to their rights stated in the people's 1997 constitution.
2. Abolish all laws and new commitments you
and your groups have issued or executed after the
coup
d'état and end efforts to draft and adopt the 2007
constitution immediately.
3. Allow the responsible agencies under the
1997 constitution to exercise their authority in the legal, administrative,
juridical activities of the nation as they had done before the
coup d'etat.
Any disputes will then be resolved according to the 1997 constitution.
4.
Immediately dissolve the Council for National
Security and return the democratic rights to Thais via their revered King
and allow the state mechanism stated in 3 to resume full functions according
to the 1997 constitution.
5.
Turn yourselves in to the Thai police, admit to the wrongdoings of violating
the 1997 constitution and let the Thai courts of law bring justice to all in
the Thai society.
We have no force and
we believe in ahimsa, but we are petitioning in good faith for a better
Thailand with some reasons for the above as follows:
1.
The 1997 constitution was drafted by
democratic representatives of all Thais. Tearing such a supreme law by force
via coup
d'état
was against the laws, uncivil and thus unacceptable.
2.
Military intervention in the democratic politics without any respect for the
people's constitution is old-fashioned, condemnable in the civilized globe,
and contributive to perpetuation of a vicious circle that will endlessly
stagnate the growth of democracy of the people, by the people, and for the
people.
3.
Having violated the 1997 constitution, you are now rebels or the outlaws. Be
informed and admit it, so that you can set a good example for the future
generations of Thai, which will, in turn, yield great gratitude among Thais
and be cherished among our grandchildren that the Thai military and allies
in 2006 coup d'etat care more about the progress of the country and the
well-being of the fellow Thais than about their own pride, gains, and
selves. Repentant wrongdoers would win over the forgiving Thai hearts, but,
if you persist in pursuing the inauspicious power and wage a violent act
against innocent protesters, you all and your clans will be condemned
forever in the Thai history books.
4.
As Thais value brotherhood and harmony more than hatred and revenge, you may
be forgiven if you are repentant and reverse your course of actions.
You can sacrifice yourselves to set a good example for the future
generations about democracy without military disruptions.
5.
Under the junta's administration, Thailand has been so badly condemned,
discriminated and marginalized in the commercial, investment, and diplomatic
arenas that the damaging impacts on the country are immense and regrettable.
Unless you set an example of political conscience now, the vicious circle of
coup
d'état,
or military intervention in the democratic politics, will be perpetuated,
resulting in countless disruptions of the country's growth and development.
6.
Under your dictatorial, unlawful power and administration that are rejected
by the national community, Thailand's economic, social, education and other
progress has been destructively held back. Your junta has failed to
handle the administration of the nation properly resulting in detrimental
development, such as the uncontrollable, fragile Thai Baht value, shrunkene
investment from outside, decreased confidence among foreign investors,
plights of Thais' lives of all walks, the escalating security problem in the
Deep South, and ineffectiveness of governmental agencies due to a lack of
clear directions and confusion created by the unconstitutional power that
you try to exercise, etc.
We, ordinary Thais from around the globe who
love our nation with our pure hearts and friends of Thais fro the
international community, do not have any political agendas for our own gain,
nor are we doing this in affiliation with any political party. We only base
our petition on the primary principle of democracy, in that it is government
of the people, for the people and by the people.
We
hope that our voices expressed with the support of our signatures underneath
will trigger your conscience and inspire you to consider and take our
requests above seriously, with open hearts and with recognition of the
King's love for his people. We also wish you will put your love for
the nation and your desire to see Thailand as peaceful and prosperous as it
should be under the people's democracy more than anything else.
Sincerely,
The Undersigned
