Beyond theoretical debates over human rights issues

Having read Donnelly further along with other authors such as Preis, Scheper-Hughes, and Steward, I can see the common efforts, yet different angles among them in transcending the theoretical dilemma toward practical details of "what next" toward human rights. [Read More!]

"Human rights": not just a phrase

The second seminar for ANTH E600 has brought me deep into the grey zone in both the philosophical and the practical dimensions of human rights. What qualifies as a universal human right becomes a tricker question than I previously thought! As an activist or a caring agent informed by the reading and the seminar so far, I do not think practices or enforcement of the human rights principles will be any easier or less slippery. The Power of the Media and Art in Education

Happy New Year 2005!

While most Asian countries cancelled all the celebrations and mourned the victims of tsunami, I saw a lot of people in the U.S. smiling and celebrating their new year as if what is happening at the other side of the globe was not relevant to them. Their fault? I think not. Ignorance? Maybe. [Read More!]
