Crisis and Opportunity
The losses brought about by Tsunami in South/Southeast Asia and Eastern Africa are horrendous. The death toll as of this date has hit a 6-digit high! Millions of people are homeless, while thousands of children are left orphans. Health problems may be knocking at the door. Many businesses have been shrunked to near zero! However, I see a lot of opportunities associated with this tragedy.

Tsunamis: The tragedy and hope
Nothing has captured my attention this much since I heard the news about tsunamis following the violent earthquake in Indonesia. The magnitude of the deaths and damages could have been diminished, but this is just a hindsight and thus just an expensive lesson. Coming with this disater, however, I have seen a hopeful sign from friends and respected people.

Giving is emphasized in all religions. In Buddhism, giving is at the heart of practices to remove attachment to the "self"--which is the evident causes of many wrongdoings. In Islam and Christianity, charity, or giving, also is of high essence.

Happy Christmas, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays?
I spent more than two hours sending e-cards to friends and people to whom I owe best wishes from around the world. It felt great when the pain visited my neck and other parts of my body, because that meant I was really giving. In the face of greed and anger that prevail on earth, I think learning to give first can become a most important thing we should all try to do. I reviewed the relation and/or relationship with every person whose name appears in the "To" line. It was an instructive experience; and so was the use of the term "Happy Holidays!"
